Getting to know takes you to meet our Regional Director of Asia, Jariya Sethi. The first time she is sharing her personal life, let's find out what builds her to be a successful leader at a very young age.
What was your first job?
My first job was in Banking with HSBC Thailand, I was working as an International Banking Officer supporting overseas clients. I was coordinating with many overseas branches and supported many clients with their banking problems. I enjoyed solving cases which my manager pointed out that I have a great instinct for trouble solving. She was very open-minded and easy-going, she allowed me to fail and make mistakes and the freedom to work at my own pace. We are still connected from time to time.
Tell us a bit about your career to date and how you got into recruitment.
My bachelor's degree was from Shinawatra University, I was granted a full scholarship. I would say it was one of the biggest life-changing events for me; I am who I am today with my goals and accomplishments are from the professors and friends of this university. I graduated early and started my first full-time job at HSBC when I was 19 where I worked for a couple of years before taking up a Master's Degree at Stamford University. My journey in recruitment started right after my Master's degree where I was working as a researcher before being introduced to Peak Recruitment through a referral which is now my second family.
If you had to pick a job in the food or agriculture industry, what would it be? And why?
It would be Research and Development in the food industry because of my family background. We are in the Indian Restaurant business in Thailand so I always get excited when our chefs comes up with new recipes and seasonal menus.
What are your interests outside of work?
I enjoy scuba diving which is one of my latest hobby that I picked up. Being able to float under the sea, aways from all the technologies and just yourself and your buddy, it's an amazing and refreshing feeling. Apart from scuba living and combination of travelling to beach destinations, I like to learn about different cultures and collaboraing with my chefs on new menus for the restaurant.
Tell us something not many people know about you?
My family are Sikh and my roots goes back to the Indian-Paskistan partition period. We couldn't trace back where exactly our roots comes from.
Are you a beer or wine person?
Definitely a wine person and only go for Red wines!
What is your favorite food?
As I'm a pescatarian, my favorite dish is from Mexican cusine. It's fish fajitas and the best one is in Koh Chang, Thailand
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
I'm trying to add morning exerices into my daily routine either a 20mins yoga or HIT workout before I start my day.
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
It would be teleport so that I can do scuba diving at Rea sea or Great barrier reef anytime I want.
What country, apart from your home country, would you like to live in?
It would be New Zealand, I visit the Northern Islands once for couple of weeks and always want to go back and live there.
What is the coolest role you've placed?
It would be a Horticulturist which I didn't knew about such role untill I got a chance to work on it.
What is your all time favourite movie?
It's a romantic-comedy Indian movie called Khoobsurat. I never get bored of watching it.
What are some of your goals (work or personal) for 2022?
For work it would be to take over the Thailand office and build a strong team for Asia market. For personal goals it would be to spend more time with my family and able to travel to Bali for a diving trip.
